Do you have any new homeowners on your shopping list this year? If so, here are ten gift ideas they will love. These are the kind of gifts that will have them singing your praises every time they use them.
Every item on this list is something we’ve received or purchased for our new home. Some of these things have moved with us from house to house and we can’t imagine our lives without them. Most of these items we use every single day, if not multiple times per day, so I know any new homeowner would appreciate these gifts.
I’m including gift ideas at a variety of price points:
- $ – Under $25
- $$ – $26-100
- $$$ – Over a $100 (great if you’re pooling money for a group gift)

1. Plants – $
Hands down the best gift for a new homeowner because no one can ever have enough house plants. Plus, you can order plants online now.

We just ordered a whole plant family from Grow. They’re based out of Fort Worth (in the cutest Airstream) and we’ve gone in person before, but it’s a long drive. I was so excited when they opened their online shop so I can grow my plant collection. They always have unique plants.
This idea isn’t just for new homeowners, everyone on your list would love a plant. Did you know for indoor air quality the recommendation is one plant for every 100 square feet? Most of us need more house plants.
2. Picture Hanging Strips and Wall Hooks – $
A house never really starts looking like home until you get some pictures up on the wall. For smooth walls, the easiest, damage-free way to hang wall decor is with 3M Command picture hanging strips. I also love using the nickel hooks on the backs of closet doors. These make a great gift for a new homeowner so they can start personalizing their home right away.
3. Ook Picture Hanging Kit – $
If your recipient has textured walls, these Ook hooks are a must—they can hang large items without screws and wall anchors. These are my favorite picture hanging hooks. We’ve used these to hang everything from framed art to heavy mirrors. You could make a gift basket of Ook products and 3M Command strips for all their wall decor hanging needs.
4. Expandable Garden Hose – $$
I’m getting my husband this space-saving hose. The hose starts at 33ft but expands to 100ft with water pressure. When you turn the water off, it shrinks back down.
5. Phillips Hue Light Kit – $$
This is one of the best purchases we’ve ever made. We started with this Phillips Hue Starter kit in our last home. We’ve since added on additional lightbulbs and recessed lights, so all of the lights in our new home are automated. All of our lightbulbs are set to go on and off at specific times based on how we use our home. We can also control them individually from our phones.

The starter kit makes a great gift for new homeowners that haven’t learned all their light switches yet. These have seriously saved our sanity in the new house where we have some light plates with four switches. We don’t have to know which switch goes to which light, we have all the lightbulbs named by room on our phones.
6. Bins and Baskets – $
Finding a place for everything in a new home is overwhelming. Having a variety of baskets and bins to organize while unpacking is helpful. My favorites are these Y-weave bins that come in a bunch of sizes. I also love these cute baskets from IKEA—three of these tied up with a bow would make a lovely gift.
7. Ring Doorbell – $$
Give the gift of security. We kept the Ring doorbell from our last house and have used it at two apartments since and now at the new house. It gives us instant peace of mind at a new place. I love that we can answer the door even when we’re not home. Also, when we are out and don’t answer, we can see who stopped by on the recorded video.
8. Starbucks Been There Mugs – $
We’ve been collecting Starbucks mugs for almost 20 years. We really love the current Been There Series mugs. For Christmas this year, we’ve asked family around the country to send us a mug from their city or state.

For a new homeowner, you can give them the mug for their state, major city, or country. You’ll get the best price in person at Starbucks stores, or you can find most of the mugs here online. You might just inspire your recipient to start their own collection.
9. Electric Tea Kettle – $$
Our first purchase for our new house was the Fellow Stagg Electric Tea Kettle. The modern matte white is perfect for our new kitchen.

This thing is a workhorse in our house. We make pour-over coffee twice a day. We enjoy a cup of tea before bed every night. And, when the kids are sick, I make them warm water on demand. Any coffee or tea drinker would love this slow-pour electric kettle.
10. Convection Toaster Oven – $$$
Our kitchen would not be complete without our KitchenAid Convection Oven. We love it (and the color) so much, we even put matching lights in our new kitchen.

We skipped double ovens in this house because we have this convection toaster oven. It heats up way faster than a regular oven, so I use it to bake meatballs, rolls, and small batches of cookies. We also use it almost daily for toast—six slices at a time. It comes in several fun colors to fit into any kitchen.
11. Eufy Robovac -$$$
This is going to sound weird, but our new Eufy Robovac vacuum is my favorite thing on the planet. My husband surprised me with it shortly after we moved in. It’s programmed to vacuum the house at 9 AM every day. We run it daily because we have two dogs that shed excessively.

I love that it fits under all of our furniture —sofa, beds, armoires. We’ve always struggled to keep up with pet hair before, but now we don’t even think about it. We recently rearranged some furniture in the living room and there wasn’t a dust bunny in sight. This would make a great group gift for a new homeowner.
12. Outdoor Modern Rocking Chairs – $$$
We just got two of these modern rocking chairs for our front porch and they are so comfortable. I always find it sad when front porches go unused because of uncomfortable or non-existent patio furniture. We didn’t want that to happen in our new house, so we splurged on great, weather-resistant chairs.

Our front porch is the perfect spot to watch sunsets. These modern rockers look amazing and they’re really comfortable, even for us tall folk (I’m 5’10” and my husband is 6’3”).
I’m also really pleased with the quality of these chairs. They came well packaged and were easy to put together (I assembled both by myself). Polywood chairs come in several different styles and lots of fun colors.
I hope you found a few gift ideas for the new homeowners in your life. I’ve personally put all the items above (except #4) to the test and I can honestly say my life wouldn’t be the same without them.
