October 4, 2016 By Jackie

Two years ago (almost to the day) I launched a course with a really good name. So good that I spent two years daydreaming about stealing the name of my own course to use as my business name.

Today I finally did it. Teal & Lime is now School of Decorating.

Teal + Lime is now School of Decorating - a resource for women that want to learn how to decorate their home

The name Teal & Lime didn’t have any inherent meaning. It wasn’t obvious to new visitors what I do. It didn’t encompass all that I do to help women decorate their own homes.

School of Decorating is concise and clear. It became a very strong brand for my course and I’m certain it will be a very strong brand for my blog and business.

School of Decorating is a name that actually speaks to my mission.

I teach women the science behind the art of decorating so they can create a beautiful home even if they’re not creative. I boost their decorating confidence by helping them discover their true style, then I show them step by step how to create a home that reflects them.

Here’s what I believe to be true about your ability to decorate and why I created School of Decorating for you:

Besides stealing the name, I took this as an opportunity to redesign the School of Decorating brand. Here’s what the new branding looks like:

Branding for SchoolOfDecorating.com - a resource for women to learn how to decorate their own home

I’d like to thank my small but mighty team that made this rebrand possible. Thank you:

  • Joell of Indie Grace Designs for the gorgeous new branding. I can’t take my eyes off the beautiful custom patterns she created.
  • Natalia of Website Superhero for everything technical. She made sure all the content from Teal & Lime made it over to the new website.
  • Indigo, Berit, and Kaitlyn of Indigo Colton LLC for migrating School of Decorating (the course) to a new platform. They wrangled over 70 videos and 30 worksheets to create a beautiful new home for the course.

What about School of Decorating (the course)?

decorography-thumbnail-sm

It’s getting a new name too. The course formerly known as School of Decorating will now be called…

Décorography: The Art & Science of Decorating

The course formerly called School of Decorating, or SoD for short, is now accepting students under the new name Décorography. You can learn the secret science behind the art of decorating so you can create a home that reflects you, even if you’re not creative. Click here to learn more.

You look beautiful in your video! Question: Do you really intend to teach “women” only? Just wondering if you are limiting your audience when you don’t have to….or maybe you thought it through and stated exactly what you mean to do and that is totally cool.

    • Jackie says

      October 4, 2016 at 10:47 am

Amanda, thank you. I do intent to focus on teaching women specifically and empowering them to create the home they dreamed of for their family. I want to reach the women that were like me several years ago and feel hopeless to create the home they imagined. Women who are also juggling careers, kids, and other priorities, but still want to create an amazing home—that’s who I can best help with my experience. But of course, decorating is not limited to women, and I welcome male students too.

That sounds great! I like where you are going with this, sister! I am looking forward to what you do next! I know it will be good stuff.

Stylish and cohesive…great job on the new re-design!

And that School of Decorating intro video is still my favorite! That EXACT one is what compelled me to join SOD :-) I loved seeing your home in action, with all your family, stylish yet livable….exactly some of the goals I have for my home!

    • Jackie says

      October 4, 2016 at 10:41 am

Thank you Tonia. It’s been so wonderful having you in the course. I was super happy when I reviewed this video and found the message is still a perfect fit for my brand as a whole, not just the course. My hubby and boys were such sports on filming day. I think the fresh popcorn helped :)

Don’t underestimate your old name, Teal and Lime. I ran across it somewhere and thought “hey, someone like me!” I am now more into a blue phase, but will always love every shade of teal.

Really nice video, Jackie. I bet you didn’t even have to bribe the kids to have that pillow fight.

    • Jackie says

      October 4, 2016 at 3:16 pm

Haha Teri. They didn’t mind doing multiple takes of the pillow fight.

Congratulations!! This truly is so much better for what you do professionally!!!! I’ve seen your growth over the years. You’ve helped me accept my leanings to bolder colors and I’m okay now with who I am. I even got drapes with all my colors so I could pull in an accent of bright yellow in just a few places. I don’t have to be like everyone else. You’ve taught me principles. I need to reread my book. My shelf is a bit messy again!!! I’m so proud of the years you’ve spent getting here. Your business sense background gives me confidence. Your warm presentations keep me confident. I’ll keep seeing you in my feed😊💜
Now you recall our deal. Don’t write back. Instead enjoy reading a fun book with your boys.📚

Jackie – You are awesome! Thank you so much for sharing with the world. In June, I was in tears trying to figure out what colors I wanted to paint the walls. I had absolutely NO confidence & no idea of how I could possibly create the atmosphere I wanted in our home. In July, after one room was painted ok colors I discovered your DYS course. I poured through it & it has taught me so many things. I look forward to everything you are doing in your site. Fun! Fun!! Fun!!!
    Thanks again! Jacque
