I have a special treat for you today…two complete dining room mood boards! Below each mood board is a link to every single featured item. I teamed up with Home Decorators Collection again to bring you these inspiring holiday entertaining mood boards. Home Decorators Collection is one of my all-around favorite sources for furniture and decor. You can find everything you need to complete an entire room, including holiday decor and fresh greens! The collection is so great, I created two complete holiday dining room looks. (Click the images for a larger view.)
Classic Red & Green
With so many great traditional pieces and holiday decor, I just had to do a classic look. My favorite piece in this room is the extra long dining table with bench seating, because at the holidays you want everyone together. I also love the mix of soft blue furniture, the sideboard and benches, with the red tones in the rug and decor.
Everything on this board, a complete dining room with seating for 8-10, comes in under $4000!
5 Ideas to Steal:
- Hang a wreath on a mirror.
- Spruce up your everyday dishes with a set of pretty appetizer plates.
- Hang three pendant lights over a long table.
- Use benches on one side of the table so you can squeeze in just one more person.
- Litter the table runner with lanterns and pinecone ornaments for an easy, casual centerpiece.

5 Ideas to Steal:

- Choose metallic decor that looks great for the holidays and beyond.
- Use a room divider to make a large or open room feel cozier.
- Try non-traditional decor, like feather trees and garland.

Before we go, let’s play favorites! Which room do you like best? What’s your favorite piece? I have a soft spot for traditional decor around the holidays, but I love how the Starry Night Look, even the holiday decor, can hang out a little while after the holidays are over. This same room is ready for a great New Year’s eve party. And, my all-time favorite piece from these two boards is the Etoile Wall Plaque…mirrored stars, yes please!!!

Hmmm….I think I like a bit of both. Too much starry night and I shiver!!! I noticed red and green are coming back. But this year I’m having Bunco at the beginning of December. I use a five foot tree in a large whitish urn and white lights. I made most of my ornaments as the boxes from the attic have not been down in three years due to physical limitations. Don’t laugh but I really wanted a starry night and white curtains!!! But I’m poor so I’m turning my world market curtains around and they are white edged in red, yellow, a light blue, twig brown–just that one inch strip…so it allows for a touch of natural elements too like pine cones, a red bow, a few gold or brass accents, but the overall accents will be lots of whites and ivories. For sentimental reasons and brainwork, I have designed 14 different chair back tie ons using my dear Papas old bleached white Ushirts and his self-darned thin cotton socks from jcPenneys. In his darning suitcase were two gray socks which have become accent strips on a few items, plus red suspenders, which can be cut into thin strips to mimic a red ribbon. He’d saved McDonald napkins and they became a cluster of various flowers on the edge of a small wreath I lightly sprayed silver and gave a dusting of iridescent glitter. My splurge is the unusual ribbon from a boutique which will be used to tie these all different backs to the chairs. I am not bragging. People are doing great things in this world but I was given Dads suitcase of rags and I feel he’d be tickled to see beauty from what others saw as nothing. So I’m not sure where that fits in. Mostly white. Used lots of that iridescent glitter. Or pearls. Or fake diamonds. I’m excited to see a part of such a personal, close to my heart project attached to chairs, table with linens, china, and celebration and fun! All in mostly white with some greens and a touch of red and most of all, Jesus in my heart.
I like both. The red and green one is just so sentimental traditional Christmas and that resinants with me. The starry night one is a cozy wintery feel which is also great, but I think I would want use that the day AFTER Christmas and keep up until march.
You’ve got me pumped for the holidays!!:)
Diana, I love that idea. The Starry Night would be great all winter long!
Starry night – and my favorite are the snowy pre-lit trees….
