Eek! I am a Pure Home Tastemaker!!!  How is that for an opening line?  I cannot contain my excitement.

I feel so honored that Pure Home asked me to be their Tastemaker for August!  When I read the list of other tastemakers I thought two things: I don’t belong in such great company and yes, please, where do I sign up?!  This certainly was not an opportunity I was going to pass up.  As a blogger and Interior Decorator, this was kind of a big deal to me just to be asked.  I totally squealed.

Tastemaker Collection

As Tastemaker, I had a ton of fun curating a collection from all the wonderful home furnishings available through PureHome.  They presented me with a challenge and asked me to create a collection to solve it.  The challenge was “how do you create a bedroom that isn’t just for sleeping, but is also for relaxing?”  I used my favorite process, mood boarding, to solve the challenge.

For me, relaxing bedrooms come in one of two forms: light and airy or dark and moody.  I created a mood board for each from the PureHome line.

PureHome Tastemaker Board

The light and airy bedroom is refreshing in a soft color palette and traditional style.  This is a room to rejuvenate in.

My top picks for achieving the light and airy bedroom are:

1. Chambray Linen Ocean Duvet Cover – I imagine this as close as it gets to sleeping in a cloud.

2. Rialto Daybed – A refreshing white daybed looks great at the foot of the bed or under a window.

3. Alder Boxes, Set of 3 – Clutter has no place in a relaxing bedroom.  Stash it away in these.

The dark and moody room, is a whole other kind of relaxing.  The dark tones wrap you in  cocoon of comfort.  And, who wouldn’t want to cuddle up with a good book in a comfy sitting area?!

My top picks for achieving the dark and moody bedroom are:

1. Arabesque Dark Gray Area Rug – Every bedroom needs a great rug.  This one brings the drama of the wall color down to the floor, too.

2. Teal Textured Pillows – Decorate the bed with rich color and sumptuous texture.

3. Mocha Peel and Stick Wood Planking – Made for walls, so you can make a focal wall the easy way.

Wall Paint Color: ISC 15-6

Guest Post on Pure Inspiration

In addition to the collection, I wrote a guest post for Pure Home’s blog, called Pure Inspiration.  I shared my top 6 tips for making your bedroom a relaxing oasis.

Bedroom Sanctuary Pinterest Board

On top of the collection and blog post, I have been a pinning machine on the Pure Home August Tastemaker Board.  The theme is “Bedroom Sanctuary”.  The board has over 75 pins ranging from inspiring bedrooms to tips on choosing the right size rug and how to arrange your bed pillows.

All this talk about bedrooms has me itching to give mine a mini makeover.  I think I want to go the dark and moody route.  What about you?  Do you prefer a light and airy bedroom or a dark and moody bedroom?

OMG! I opened my Pure Home email this morning and was happily surprised to see that you are this month’s Tastemaker. I am loving the moody dark room you came up with. I’m heading over to their blog now to check out your tips.

I never though of it in these terms as moody but I prefer our room and so does my hubby to be personal, yet in darker tones. The side walls and ceiling will get a bit of lightening this fall but we are keeping a red darkened with a touch of brown glaze. A border of square frames with 3″ openings of self sketched trees and leaves tie in to my branch over my bed that I’ve loved before anyone talked of them. My hubby brought in a pine dresser my friend and I added trim to and also painted in the red with dark brown stain. This keeps the red from looking pinkish plus makes it dramatic. I had my moms tall dresser and my kids changing table which was a less wide dresser that were oak so I’d dry painted them a black brown. Now that ASCP is in, I’d like to do something just to the drawers for interest. Our clear light gold glass tiered hanging tea light holder and another clear glass hanging unusual shape candle holder bounce light off a mirror that creates drama. Our bedding is duvets that I change seasonally. They are fun yet go with my drama and natural nature accents in the room. Just getting sick keeps ideas in my head and not done!! But I lived with white walls, white meatlesse, and white cushion on my bench at end of bed and I realized although I love it for others, I feel happier in my dramatic but needs a bit of refining as its been five years!!!!!! Oh. Plus, my house is small and open. My bedroom wall, the dresser, and my round cloth covered large table by my bed (but not bed) are seen from the living area so I feel like they are an accent too to that area, tying my accent color to that room

Gwen, I love it. You write so well, I can envision every detail. I am glad you banished the white and went for the drama you love!

Hmmm. So how do I add a rug? I think ill just leave without. There’s plenty going on visually looking into the room and being handicapped, a rug might be a safety hazard (my toe catch on it as I have carpet in there). I do have a Persian wool rug I love that is subtle yet anchors the wood flooring seating area in the great room. So many things to which I now have to consider! Open pathways…enough things to grab hold of as I maneuver around if I’m not on my walker!!! But my brain is still decorating!! That’s why I liked this new site. New ideas!!! To blend with what I have.
