I am a color lover! As my design style develops I find myself more and more drawn to using bold color in fun ways throughout my home. There is one color in particular I have been using for the last 9 years. So much so, my younger brother often teases me about it. If he sees something new at my house in a different color, he asks if they were out of my color. All kidding aside, I am proud to have a signature color. I think you should have one, too.
In today’s video you’ll get to hear my top 3 tips for using color to personalize your home, including a sneak peek at my first kitchen remodel that was the start of my signature color.
Note: For anyone curious about my fashion, even though it was a bit toned down in this video, here are the details. The sweatshirt blazer is by Emu (found at Hot Mama). One of the favorite pieces I own and wear with everything during winter. The striped tank underneath is another favorite in navy and teal by Red Haute (also found at Hot Mama). The turquoise teardrop earrings are from Banana Republic.

I love your suggestions about colors. I have tried to do the same in my home with purple and orange. It is definately a color combo that most people do not use.
Great suggestions! I have recently come around to using my favorite color combination (which were my wedding colors and are very well represented in my clothes) in my decorating. I don’t know why I never embraced it before. DUH! Now I love my house so much better. The colors are blue and pink, by the way, especially cobalt blue and hot pink, but the shades vary around the house (minimalizing the pink for my husband’s sake).
Anne, That is so great. Cobalt and hot pink is definitely a dynamic color combo. Love it!
Thanks. My wedding pictures make me smile.
Interesting. I like beachy coastal colors in my home but dark navy, black and grey in my wardrobe. I guess I should consider these more often as accent colors.
Char, I am far from a fashion expert, but maybe my tip works in reverse too. Maybe some beachy coastal colors would be fun in your wardrobe or jewelry. As for your home decor, navy and grey are beautiful and trendy neutrals!
Your tutorial on envelope pillows has changed my life!
Thank you!!!!
Your welcome Amy! I am sewing up a bunch of envelope pillows this week. While I am working on them, I thought I would make a video tutorial on how to make them. I’ll be sharing it in the next couple weeks.
I have a few covers I want to make and was going to go back to your how-to post. I would love a video on how you do it!
Perfect! I am planning to show two methods for easy envelope pillow covers.
Hmmm. I left a long comment yesterday and must not have sent it. Oh well. I love the idea of a signature color. Mine would be green-any green really. The yellow-green (A Hint of Olive by Ace Hardware) on my living room wall makes me happy. I feel like I’m part of nature when I sit in that room. My eyes are green so maybe that’s why I like the color. You’re doing great with the videos btw. I like the way you explain your ideas and talk slow enough to let them sink in.
Thanks Lisa. So awesome that you already have a signature color. It is so important to recognize how a color makes you feel and then surround yourself with the ones that make you feel amazing!
I am definitely taking your advice on this. I have always been a neutral (black white grey) with a splash of color girl. This is working in my home and the splash seems to change with my mood or the season. Right now I’m all about coral, who knows what next year has in store :-)
Such great tips Jackie! For me it’s definitely true that the same colors I’m drawn toward in clothes are the same colors I get most excited about in my home. I tend to love a lot of different colors, and am working on narrowing down a few colors that will help our home feel more cohesive. Thanks for this!
Great tips Jackie! Thank you for the suggestions!
