Ever since putting our former media armoire in the dining room niche, I have had big plans to use it for storage. But, at first I was not sure what to store. After two years in our home, I finally figured out exactly what I needed. Then, it took only one afternoon to transform a media armoire cabinet to party storage central.
Over the last few years, I’ve amassed a few party supplies and decorations. I like to reuse supplies as much as possible on more than one party. My party supplies and decorations were stashed all over the house…in closets, drawers, laundry room. The disorganization was a result of not having one dedicated space for party storage. At the same time, I had this giant empty armoire.
Since the armoire was designed for a large screen TV, it lacked interior shelving. I found a quick and inexpensive fix at Target. I bought four sets of Closet Maid shelving. I bought two backless cubby units and two shoe storage shelves. Since these shelves would be inside the armoire, I opted for the less expensive backless units. Each unit was about $10. My son helped me assemble all the shelves. He held them, while I screwed them together.
The shelving units helped me maximize the storage potential of the armoire. The four units fit into the armoire with the two cubby units off to each side and the two shoe shelf units are stacked in the middle. The space above the shoe shelves is ideal for larger items. I also left a shelf out of the one cubby unit for taller items.
Here she is all stocked up with party supplies:
It is wonderful to see all my supplies and decorations at a glance. Everything has a place now. The mix of square openings and longer horizontal openings is perfect for storing all different sized items. There is even space leftover for my collection to grow.
On the shoe shelves, I am storing my collection of paper lanterns, tablecloths and runners, and a larger galvanized metal platter. One shelf is reserved for floral foam and faux succulents. I put the large yellow beverage tub and tall carafes on top of the shoe shelves.
The cubbies on the left side hold picture frames, used for party signage, a jar filled with fun cupcake liners, and my DIY milk glass bottles. The milk glass bottles are sitting in a square cake pan I used to make my wedding cake.
The right hand cubby unit was assembled without one of the shelves. The taller space holds my tall beverage dispenser and on top of it sits a cupcake display stand. The bottom cubby has assorted vases. The long shelf above, which used to be for the cable box above the TV, is the perfect spot to store large decorative branches.
Besides organized party storage, this cabinet is full of memories. Everything in here was used for one of the parties I created. The memories of those fun-filled days come rushing back when I open this cabinet. From the moss-covered platter used at my son’s bug party, the ruffled tablecloth used at the She’s Going to Pop baby shower, to the paper circle garland used at my youngest’s first birthday milk and cookies party, there are so many memories in this cabinet.
I am looking forward to planning my next party :)

This. Is. Genius. Love!!! And I’m so jealous that you have all your party supplies in one place!
That is amazing! I would love to have a piece like that to keep everything organized! Some day :)
Hi Jackie, love this idea! BTW, where did you find your white beverage dispenser?
Brenda, The beverage dispenser is from Target. They have a variety of them every spring.
wow! this is awesome! Not I want an armoire too!~ ;)
I wish I could fit an armoire like that in my dining room! I love that you put those closet maid shelves inside–fantastic!
Super fab!!! I have a clothing armoire sitting empty in my craft room and I never thought about putting in the closet organizers to repurpose it the way you have. Thanks for the inspiration as always.
How genius is this?! I’ve often wondered how others store party supplies and extra decor items. I have some shelves in my (unfinished) basement that are OCD organized, but I love how pretty this looks!
Just discovered your blog, can’t wait to explore!
Okay, I know I’m on my 4th comment of the day, but I’m just catching up on T&L!
And this is so awesome!!! All my party decor is stored away in giant plastic containers but this is such a better idea!
I totally have space for something like this in my house. I never would have thought about this! I love it, thanks!
I love this look. Can you tell me where you got the media armoire? I am struggling to find something like this for my dining room.
Ashley, This armoire is from Room & Board. We happen to live near their weekend outlet, so we got a great deal. They don’t carry this particular one anymore, but have some similar. West Elm and Crate & Barrel are two other stores that carry modern armoires.
I know it is unconventional in a dining room, but after 4 years I can tell you a truly love the extra storage it provides while being able to close it up to keep the dining room looking clean and clutter free.
