Gym Towel Baskets & How to Label Canvas Liners

Just because we go to the gym in our own home now doesn’t mean we want to give up all the fitness club niceties.  A fresh workout towel to wipe the sweat from your brow is a nice, not-to-be-overlooked perk of a fitness club.  I aim to provide that same convenience in our home gym.

A while back I picked up these two Smith and Hawkin canvas-lined wire baskets at Target on clearance for $5.98 each (they were originally $19.99 each).  Mounted to the wall in the home gym makes them the perfect place to stash gym towels.

I wanted to use one for clean towels and one to toss dirty towels in after a workout.  I decided I needed to label the baskets “clean” and “dirty”.  I used a sharpie to label the canvas liners directly.

I printed out the clean/dirty text in American Typewriter font.  I slipped the print out under the wire basket to determine placement.

Then I used a few pieces of tape to secure the print out inside the canvas liner.

I removed the canvas liner and taped it up to the window, so I could see the type through the canvas.  I used a blue sharpie marker to trace the outline of the text.

Once the canvas liners were back in place, I was left with these two cute labeled baskets.

I mounted two 3M Command Hooks in nickel finish on the wall near the TV cabinet in the gym.  The wire baskets slip right onto the hooks.

I will be filling the “clean” basket with basic white hand towels.  The “dirty” basket will hold the used towels until laundry day.  The goal will be to get all the clean towels into the dirty basket by the end of the week, indicating we did all our our planned workouts.  The one part I will miss about the fitness club is someone else doing the laundry!

So cute! I love those baskets, and that you hung them on the wall. Maybe Target still has some?!
