Babies get all the great gifts and the new mother sometimes gets overlooked. Our nanny recently had her first baby and we already gave plenty of cute gifts for baby and hand-me down baby gear. So, when we got the chance to go meet baby for the first time, I was determined to bring the new mommy the perfect gift.
I went on a fun snack shopping spree, looking for everything a nursing mother should be eating. Individually packaged snacks and those that could be eaten one handed were a must. I got granola bars, trail mix, cereal bars, dried fruit, cranberries, oatmeal cookies, Crystal Light water flavor packets, dark chocolate, and gum. The gum is for those inevitable mornings when she will be beckoned to feed baby before she can brush her teeth. With all the water a nursing mother needs to drink, the flavor packets will make it a little more exciting.
I thought I would just find a nice basket to put it all in, but I changed my mind when I saw this two tier tray. Not only would it make a great display, but could be used in the kitchen long after all the snacks are gone. I also like that she could keep this anywhere she wants in the house, maybe even the nursery, if that is most convenient. There shouldn’t be any excuse for not having a good snack near by. This would also be a great gift for a new mom returning to work, although in that case I might use a smaller basket she can hide away from co-workers.
The whole gift was so easy to put together. I just loaded up the tiers with the individually packaged snacks. I topped it off with a simple, fun yellow curling ribbon bow. I didn’t bother to wrap or bag it. We just brought it like this.
It looks lovely, and I really do think it’s a kind idea. The only thing that might stop me making one would be all the trash from individual packaging – I suppose you can’t win on all fronts!
This is cool! It gives me more idea on what to give as a gift for my sister.
