Breaking the Self-Imposed One Owl Per Room Rule

When I got my mercury glass owl, I moved my DIY ceramic owl to the nursery.  Even though I consider them one of my decor idols, I decided one owl per room was my maximum.

Then I fell for this little guy.  I decided to break my rule…or maybe modify it.  Baby owls don’t count.  This little mercury glass guy just looks adorable next to his mama mercury glass owl on the family room built-ins.

The larger mercury glass owl was a HomeGoods find for $12.99.  The new small owl is from West Elm for $14, with 50% of the purchase price donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®.  The owls do not appear to be available any longer online, but I just got this guy a week ago at my local store and they had plenty more.

The owls look the exact same but obviously a different size. Definitely worthy of putting together! :)

I love these owls! I have them as well. I started with one but had to get a second one. And they both live in the same room, although not next to each other. Although they were together at one point and I can’t decide where they should live!!

I love owls too. It seems to be a trend, but I think it’s a trend that will stick around – after all, they are so cute!! But any idea how this trend started? I’m just curious since I have no idea. As in, why can I suddenly find owl bathmats, containers, planters, etc., but not another animal like a tiger or a fox? Perhaps it’s because the owl shape, being a rather round animal, suits itself well to a wide variety of functional items and decor aesthetics?

Why owls? I found a pretty good answer here:

I have 3 owls in 1 room, but they are not together. My grandmother had owl of all different sizes in her house and some in the same room. I think these 2 owls are adorable together!

I love that you have this rule. Mine is similar: I MUST have one owl in each room. I do love them so. And now it’s beginning with foxes too. So stinkin’ cute. But there’s always the danger that once someone knows you like a particular thing, you get too many of that thing. For every holiday. Happy Tuesday – here’s your Tuesday owl, etc.

Colleen, you cracked me up. That is so true about people latching onto a certain item and getting you variations of it for every gift. I have the opposite problem, where I instinctively want to buy everyone owl things. I just have to remember not everyone likes owls. I have seen a few foxes around lately that have caught my eye…have you seen the fox cookie jar from West Elm? So cute!
