This bell is my favorite new decor item. I love an unexpected element in a room. My favorite unexpected elements are functional pieces not normally seen in a home with an industrial or utilitarian history.
This ship’s bell was $12.99 at Home Goods. I didn’t have to think twice about adding this to my cart. It would be the perfect unexpected element for the kitchen. When I spotted this one, I also grabbed the bell I used in styling the family room built-ins. When I was checking out, the cashier asked if I collected bells. I replied, “I guess I do now”. Add bells to my list of decor idols.
I mounted the ship’s bell next to the fridge, just at the edge of the kitchen and the family room. Now I have a dinner bell. Hopefully a ring of this will get my boys scrambling to the table.
I love how it looks with our clock (from Crate & Barrel) and the globe pendant lights (from West Elm). Now we have a modern, industrial, nautical vibe in the kitchen.
Too funny, we have the same bell that I picked up at TJ Maxx last summer. It lives in our screen porch so when my little guy and hubby are outside, I can ring it to get their attention!
I think Layla over at Lettered Cottage has the same one too :)
I’m a former Twin Cities girl and I just LOVE your blog! ♥
Jackie, I have never thought of putting a bell in my house but what a great idea. My grandparents had a lake house and we had a huge bell mounted to one of the decks. When it was time to eat my granddad would ring it and we could hear it from the pier and know it was time to come in. This just brought back memories for me. Lesley
Lovely!
I just bought the same thing for my living room redo. Love it!! And since finding your blog a few weeks back I have since painted my laundry room Plummage and love it!! Thanks for the inspiration!!
That is great Lauren! I would love to see pictures!
Gorgeous – I wish we had a home goods
Lauren, I had to use Plumage too. Couldn’t figure ou where though until I bought a children’s table and stools. The table looks so cute in Chalkboard paint Plumage! And the lime stools have migrated all around the house and look cute in every room and I love how the colors are gender neutral together. I have a hard time choosing colors that I can use for both my girl and boy.
I grew up in the country and always wanted one of those triangle dinner bells. My parents didn’t. They are back in the country and I told them they needed it again for when one of them is out in the garden. They still don’t agree. BUT this is something I could do! Maybe I should get one for my back yard for when my kid(s?) are a little older.
