I have been holding on to this hand painted gift bag for over a year since my in-laws returned from a trip to Peru and Columbia. I adore the brown paper gift bag painted in bright colors. I often keep gift bags to re-use, but I could not stand to give this one away.
A few months ago I found a unique oval frame at the thrift store for a dollar. With a little makeover I knew it would be perfect for framing the gift bag art. I removed the backing and glass. I spray painted the frame including the hanging hardware white.
I used the glass as a guide when cutting the picture off the front of the gift bag. I lined up the glass on the gift bag with the image centered. I traced around the glass. I cut just inside of the traced line.
After a few light coats of spray paint and some drying time, I reassembled the frame with the painted gift bag art. With the white frame and vibrant colors, I decided to hang the art in this little area above my laundry room counter.
This gift bag art has three of my favorite things; 1) bright colors, 2) brown kraft paper, and 3) a low price tag!

What a great idea to frame the art on the bag. Crafting is such a great concept for so many. I’m always making something else out of what many never expect to make of it. Creative recycling. To me crafting is so much fun. Those sewing cards are great, love them. can do so much with them. Only limited by our imaginations. I look on it as a good way to keep from getting dementia. Hope so anyway. Keep on crafting.
Jackie,
When I first saw the gift bag I thought UGH! I don’t care for the southwestern style and with Mexican art I am very picky. But once I saw it framed in the white and hung in your laundry room I thought WOW! It is absolutely perfect there. I should have known this would be fabulous because you have amazing taste. I will never doubt you again.
