Mom confession: I am way behind on baby books. For my oldest, I got his baby book when he was almost two and started filling it in. For my younger, who is almost two, I haven’t even gotten the book yet. At least I keep note of important dates and milestones.
The book I got for my oldest is from Edna Mae Baby and I love it! It is simple and beautiful. You can buy different inserts to extend it beyond a baby book. It also comes with blank pages, so you can do your own thing. I used one of the blank pages for a baby shoe rubbing.
These Converse All Stars were not my son’s first pair of shoes, but they were the first ones he really wore and walked around in…all the time! I will probably keep them forever, but I also wanted to add them to his baby book. I used tracing paper and a black crayon to create a rubbing of the soles. I just placed the tracing paper over the bottom of the shoe and rubbed with the side of the black crayon.
Converse All Stars have a great pattern on the sole that makes the rubbing more interesting. I also adore that the size was printed on the bottom. I made sure to capture the size in my rubbing.
After rubbing both shoes, I trimmed the tracing paper to fit on my baby book page. I stitched the tissue paper to the page with orange thread and my favorite decorative stitch on my sewing machine.
The sweetest thing now about these rubbings…my youngest just outgrew these same shoes. They were his first everyday shoes too! I also find it absolutely adorable that we first got them because they matched daddy’s John Varvatos Converse All Stars.

That’s adorable. My baby’s first “real” shoes were a pair of Chucks as well.
