We found the secret to meaningful art in our home and now we cannot find enough wall space to fill! One of the best relationships we have ever formed is with our family photographer. We used to do lower cost portrait studios or believed for a while we could take our own pictures. When I was still pregnant with our youngest my “nesting” phase was focused around securing a great photographer to do the baby photo series throughout the first year. It was an expense like non other we had ever spent on photos. We also looked for a photographer that we could stick with throughout the years…someone who could do baby shots, family shots, pet portraits. We found Miroslavich Photography (I highly recommend if you are in the St. Paul – Minneapolis area).
The moment we found our new home, we knew we would work with Melissa to fill those art niche’s in the foyer. We just got the center-piece family photo, which Melissa thoughtfully coordinated with our personal style. Eventually we will probably do portraits of the boys in the other two niche’s, but we can do that over time.
Melissa’s quality is amazing and their selection of finished prints and art is never-ending. They are always tweaking their product line. We were fortunate enough to be the first to try out a new series of canvas prints of our puppy Sofia. Melissa designed this to be a set of 3 or 4 gallery-wrapped canvas prints. They are each 11 x 11″ square. Melissa has mad graphic design skills and added a really cool border around the edges. The grey geometric design pops off the walls and coordinates with the grey in our adjacent living room.
I think we were the first to try out her new turquoise backdrop. She knew I would love it. Sofia looks so sharp in these photos. This small wall in our kitchen and eating area is the only place we have to put art. We instantly knew Sofia’s photos would be perfect for that spot. They brighten our day every morning when we walk into the kitchen. They are on the small angled wall outside the pantry. You walk by them when coming in from the mudroom, so the edge design is perfect since they are seen from the side a lot. (Curious about the pantry door – check out how I turned it into a chalkboard door.)
Yes, Melissa and her side-kick Robin, are also now my home decor consultants! They partner with me to take the shots we love and bring them into our home as beautiful art pieces. We have a few other beautifully framed pieces in the nursery and in our master bedroom. Until I can get some photos of the framed pieces, check out Miroslavich Photography Buzz blog for more of our best photos:
- We are anxious to pick up a canvas print of the whole family walking together from a quick outdoor session
- My baby turns 1 – the second picture melts my heart, so I have a 16 x 20″ framed version in the master bedroom
- Lots of brotherly love in this session – Melissa and Robin shot these in our home
- Newborn shots – we have these in a beautiful photo box
My favorite thing about using family and pet photos as art…is to us they are timeless. We will always love these pieces!
